Violet Fizz Cocktail

By CVoisey

The fizz is a classification of mixed drink that is a variation on the Sour family of cocktails. The addition of carbonated water (soda) adds the "fizz". First mentioned in the 1887 edition of Jerry Thomas' Bartender's Guide, the fizz has many variations, most having to do with additional ingredients such as egg white, egg yolk or whole egg. For example, the Ramos Gin Fizz, one of the most famous variations, includes not only egg white but cream, sugar, orange flower water and both lemon and lime juices. Charlotte fell in love with the Violet Fizz at the venerable Varnish in Los Angeles. This beautiful cocktail epitomizes all that is wonderful about the Fizz and its numerous variations and is perfect for Spring brunch.

This looks great!  I entered a similar recipe for a Bombay Sapphire contest a while back, with the addition of Luxardo.  Basically a combination of a Ramos and an Aviation.  Didn’t win though : (

Fantastic…for so many reasons.  First, a new video, wahoo!  I don’t consider the April Fools videos as new content but they were hilarious.  Second, this cocktail looks delicious.  It is always nice to have another use for my creme de violet (although I really wish I had some of the Bitter Truth stuff).  Charlotte, great job as always!  I really do enjoy your take on cocktails.  Are you in a different place, as the backdrop looks different than the older videos.  Someday I’ll make it to the Varnish…

Small Screen Network, please, we need more videos!

Cheers,

Greg

Apparently I’m a little behind on Charlotte’s videos since she changed location/backdrop a while ago.  Excuse me while I catch up…

Greg,

Glad you enjoy the new episode of The Proper Pour with Charlotte Voisey!
The location we used for the series this season and last is Rob Roy here in Seattle. It is owned by the venerable Anu Apte and is one of America’s top bars according to David Wondrich. You should definitely check it out next time you are in the area!

In regard to videos, we are shooting new episodes of all of our shows this month. Look for new seasons and episodes in May!

Thank you for watching!

Colin,

Music to my ears.  I, and I’m sure others, are going through serious withdrawal.  Can’t wait for the new videos.  And just to be clear, what the Small Screen Network is doing is VERY MUCH appreciated.

I will add Rob Roy to my list.  There are so many places I would love to visit, in Seatle and abroad.  To bad this thing called ‘life’ tends to get in the way.  But fear not, I will make my way to Seatle in the near future.

Is it Friday yet?  I could use a drink.

Cheers,

Greg

Greg,

We are going through withdrawal as well! Our esteemed hosts can’t wait to get more videos out to the world!

Glad you appreciate what we have to offer. This is only the tip of the iceberg!

Another great video! The enthusiasm and lessons of the Small Screen Network´s bartenders are truly inspirational. Excellence is an art and someone like Charlotte is nailing that to the max, performance after performance!

I was wondering, as I don´t have Bitter Truth Violette Liqueur over here, would it be a good substitute to replace with Parfait d´Amour (Bols)? or will it probably result in whole different flavours?

Keep on this great work!

Cocktail greetings from the Netherlands,
Daniël
