Sponsored: 20th Century Cocktail

Gin is very mixable and provides a wonderful range of botanical flavors on which bartenders can build delicious cocktails. One flavor you will not often see used with gin cocktails is chocolate; that is, until you come across the 20th Century Cocktail.

1 1/2 parts Hendrick’s Gin

3/4 part white creme de cacao

3/4 part fresh squeezed lemon juice

1/2 part 1:1 simple syrup

Shake all ingredients with ice.

Double strain into a cocktail coupe.

Garnish with a lemon twist.

The creme de cacao you choose is also very important. What you want is something which carries the complexity of fine chocolate—we’re talking something where you get hints of other flavors, the way you do with gin or wine, not a pure one-note sweet flavor like cheap milk chocolate. Tempus Fugit makes a beautiful creme de cacao which is great in this, as well as bringing even a fluffy dessert drink like the Grasshopper to new heights.

...where’s the Lillet?

I don’t doubt that this is a delicious drink, but the original 20th Century recipe has Lillet.
