St Germaine is always wonderful paired with a good sparkling. Also pear and apricot liqueurs work wonders as well. And with summer pepper season around the corner, there's nothing wrong with throwing in a few good red chiles to spice it up and give it some character!
This is an excellent cocktail for summer! Had to sub a few things and it still came out great.. Didn't have the edinburgh yet in Nashville, TN so I used Deaths Door, which has a similar pine character. In lieu of Yellow Chartreuse, I dropped it down to 1/4 oz of Green as the green is just a bit richer than yellow and I felt it would lend a great green color to the cocktail, and in lieu of the Zirbenz pine, I substituted 1/2 oz of Clear Creek Douglis Fir Eau de Vie, a bit easier to find.
Tried this with a cazadores resposado. 1st time by recipe. Wonderful results. 2nd time added just a drop of (important) maraschino. Found the slight nuttiness of the luxardo plays perfect with the resposado. Cazadores has a slight anise undertone so I'm curious how (literally) just a drop of absinthe may work (probably horrible) but we'll see next time.
Great.. Using a bit extra bourbon seems to compensate for crystallization. Using a smaller bottle works better as well.
Also, careful if you're on a gas stove.. I forgot about the high alcohol content in the angostura and about blew myself up by tipping the pan before it came off the range. :)
Pimms cup is one of my favorites on a warm spring day especially when strawberries are in season. Try this one on for size when you need a quick refresher:
Slice of cucumber
Half a strawberry
1.5 Hendricks gin
1.5 Pimms #1
.25 Canton Ginger Liqueur
.25 Rich Simple
.25 Lime Juice
2-3 mint leaves
Shake hard with ice, double strain over ice in collins glass, top with soda.
